Choosing the Right Tyre Mix for Your Forecourt
Get your tyre mix right and everything else gets easier — customers leave happy, your bays stay busy, and you're not tying up cash in stock that won't shift. Get it wrong and you're either turning work away or watching slow-movers gather dust. Here's how to build a mix that works.

Start with your customer base
Before you order a single tyre, look at who actually walks through your door. A rural garage serving farmers and vans needs a very different stock profile to a town-centre shop fitting hatchbacks and SUVs. Pull your fitting data from the last few months — you'll quickly see the sizes and vehicle types that come up again and again.
Cover the three price tiers
Most forecourts do best carrying a spread across premium, mid-range and budget. Premium brands win you the customers who ask for the best; mid-range covers the sensible majority looking for value and life; budget closes the deal for price-driven buyers who'd otherwise go elsewhere. Skip a tier and you hand that customer to a competitor.
Prioritise your fast-moving sizes
A handful of common sizes will account for most of your sales — think popular 15" to 17" car fitments and the go-to van sizes. Keep these deep in stock across at least two price points. For the long tail of rarer sizes, lean on a wholesaler who can turn them around fast rather than carrying them yourself.
Don't forget seasonal and specialist demand
SUV and 4x4 fitments, all-season tyres, and light commercial sizes are all growing steadily. Carrying a small, sensible range signals to customers that you can handle whatever rolls in — and captures work you'd otherwise send down the road.
Let your supplier carry the risk
The smartest forecourts keep their own shelves tight and rely on a wholesaler with genuine breadth and quick delivery to fill the gaps. That way your cash stays in fast-movers, not slow-moving stock.
At SG Tyre Wholesale we hold premium, mid-range and economy tyres across car, SUV, van, truck and agri fitments — so you can stock lean and top up fast.
